Christmas Kitchen and Guest Post at City Farmhouse

Good morning!  This past week I added a few festive touches to our kitchen and took some photos for a guest post I wrote at my friend Jens.  I thought Id share some of the pictures here too.

This month I have been using so much cypress.  Its soft and easy to work with and so far has held its color.

I hung some over the window above the sink and then added a burlap bow.  (I used this great tutorial for making the bow.)

I also clipped some lavender from our garden... I love catching its light fragrance while Im doing dishes.

I made a little garland for Jillians room which used some cranberries... while I was at it, I also threaded a few small little strands to put here and there.

The girls stood beside me as I took these photos... anxiously waiting for me to finish so we could actually eat the pomegranate!

A fun little treat this time of year... but messy too (smile).

On the other side of the kitchen are my cupboards... Im sure you remember this cupboard, which hasnt changed too much.

But I always like adding a few little seasonal touches to it.

I mentioned in a previous post that weve been baking up a storm.  After we *thought* we were finished with photos, we made some cookies... but I dragged out the camera again (smile).  I never get tired of seeing her drag her little stool over to help.

(I have to tell you how hilarious Jillian is... whenever I get out the camera these days, she says something along the lines of, for the blog again?!)

We (okay, actually its mostly I) have plans for this corner of the kitchen and I hope we can get started on it soon!  Lets just say theres a pile of old barn wood planks sitting on our back deck just waiting...

Today I am guest posting over at City Farmhouse.  If you havent visited Jen yet, you will love her.  She and her family live in a seaside town in New York... Jen has beautiful style and her home is just lovely and a true reflection of her.  This week she shared her home decorated for Christmas and it is so gorgeous it blew me away... you can find her tour here.   Anyway, she invited me to be a part of her Style House series and Im honored to be giving a little tour of our home.  And if you are visiting from City Farmhouse, thank you so much for stopping by.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

CHRISTMAS DEER AND A SNOW DAY

I chose a woodland theme to play with this year for Christmas decorating. It stated with the burlap
ribbon I used on the Christmas tree. I had picked up these stocking hangers at Walmart along with
the crystal snow tree in the middle. My baby pinecones are from Brick & Mortar and the smaller
shiny trees are a second hand find. They have candles behind them. (battery tea lights) I have also
used a few sprigs of faux greener along the shelf.

A glitter covered reindeer wreath got perched a top of a black urn. The same black urn I use with a
topiary ball in some of my furniture pictures. I simply pulled the greenery ball off the stem and sat
the wreath in front of it.

My stockings were a unique find at Potters Christmas Store, but they had to be purchased on the 50%
off coupon weekend. I planned to be there right at 9am when they opened and I found out quickly so
did everyone else. The parking lot was full, the extra parking lots was full, and the road side parking
was full. I was patient and a spot opened, we got in the store and picked out the stockings, before
we knew it we were through the cashier and on our way. Thank you Potters for being so organized!

By now you must have noticed the title and the theme of reindeer hanging around our home.
The bed has a deer and even the wrapping paper has tons of them prancing around.

This morning we woke to our first official snow. We had a light dusting earlier this month and it was
gone by that afternoon. This snow fall should look pretty for the rest of the day but with warmer
temperatures forecast tomorrow it wont be here long. We typically get one nice snow to enjoy the
rest of the time its rain. This Wednesday the forecast is calling for rain. Enjoy todays photos.

Our Christmas Tree

This weekend I finished decorating the tree (well almost - I still want to make a tree skirt). This year I decided to go with a silver, gold and white tree. If you follow my Pinterest boards, especially my holiday board, you probably had a clue as too what was going on our tree :)

I found this gold ribbon on clearance last year after Christmas at Joanns for 70-90% off, Im not sure. Either way it was a good deal!

I bought a few clear glass bulbs from Michaels and paint pens from Wal-Mart and drew a loose scallop design. I left some clear.

and I added paint to the inside of some.

I was originally going to make the medallion ribbon ornament, but my ribbon wasnt wide enough. I tried it with a torn piece of white broadcloth, but wasnt easy to manipulate so I decided to use the one I made as a topper.

I used the rest of white cotton broadcloth to make folded flowers, using this tutorial.
I followed it except,  I didnt keep the fabric folded at 1/2" the whole time (just at the beginning) and then I twisted and folded the entire 1" strip, I found it easier and faster this way.

They are hung with crochet thread, I found white/gold at Wal-Mart for $2.97.

I used white and silver snowflakes that I purchased last year from Target and made glitter ornaments with clear glass bulbs, spray adhesive and glitter. Glitter is a must for Christmas, right? It looks so pretty with the tree lights!

I sprayed the inside of the bulb with spray adhesive, getting as close to the top as possible, it kinda floats to the top too (enough for the glitter to stick).

Then added glitter and shook. and successfully glittered my hand too, it did come off easily though :)

I painted a few silver bulbs that I had (bottom middle of photo) with the gold metallic paint pen too.

Im currently using a white blanket for the tree skirt, but hope I have time to make one!

We have lots of projects in the works, come back tomorrow for another DIY Christmas gift and later this week for more Christmas decorations and project updates!
